If you’re not into adrenaline-fueled ocean endurance events or just a little bit crazy, chances are you don’t know what the #r2AK hashtag means. Luckily, at Metamorphic, we are little bit of both! The #r2AK hashtag refers to Race to Alaska, a 750 miles race along the inside coastal passage from Port Townsend to Ketchikan.
You read that right. 750 miles. In the water.
Also, did we mention that there’s no race course? Other than two waypoints at Seymour Narrows and Bella Bella, there is no official course. And one more thing, which is a minor point really and hardly worth mentioning actually: no motors and no support are allowed once the race has started. You’ve got to use your smarts and your strength and that’s it! When you consider the squalls, wild life and tidal currents that run upwards of 20 mph, this sounds equally terrifying and amazing, doesn’t it? This year, 65 teams started the race, choosing to travel their own way, in the spirit of the first explorers. Of these, only 23 teams finished the race. It is North America’s longest human and wind powered race and Metamorphic was proud to send a few of our Dopp Kits for field testing by Team Onism.
Congratulations to Team Onism and the other brave participants for boldly challenging yourself and inspiring all the rest of us to try something a little bit crazy one day.
