Did you know ALL of our products are Made in the USA and in most cases, right here in Seattle? Did you also know that starting in April 2017, all of our Dopp Kits will be sewn in partnership with Seattle Sewn, a local non-profit providing job training and and employment to immigrants and refugees. At Metamorphic, we have always believed in doing good for our community. It starts with diverting tons of raw materials away from the landfill like we do with the tarp, sailcloth and climbing ropes we use for our bags and accessories. We have always sewn and assembled our products in Seattle but we knew we could do even better. By partnering with Seattle Sewn, we are keeping jobs in our community while supporting some of our most vulnerable community members.
Seattle Sewn provides apparel production training and job placement services, along with a freelance studio for skilled sewers and ongoing research on the needs of the sewn-goods sector. As a sub-program of Seattle Made, Seattle Sewn addresses Seattle’s acute need for skilled sewers and flexible well-paid employment for low-income residents (primarily immigrants and refugees). Together we are all working to lay the foundation for a thriving and sustainable place-based sewn goods industry.
Since November of 2015, the project has trained 50 low-income immigrants and refugees as commercial sewers. Trainees have come from 10+ different countries, and 60% of students have been refugees.
Next time you are thinking of making a purchase for yourself or a loved one, consider one of our versatile Dopp Kits and know that you are supporting the health of your neighborhood and the people within it.
