As if we couldn’t love the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance any more for their outstanding work in keeping toxic pollution out of the Puget Sound. Then they go ahead and coin a term like “kayaktivist!” We partnered with the Alliance yesterday for their July 4th beach clean-up which connected local sponsors and volunteers to remove debris after the fireworks celebrations. Volunteers were not only on foot cleaning up Gas Works Park and the surrounding neighborhoods, but tons of boats and kayaks pulled debris out of the water and shoreline. This is when we learned that an activist on a kayak is obviously called a kayaktivist.
What goes up, must come down and down came almost 750 pounds of fireworks debris, bottles, plastic wrappers and even a couple of suitcases and skateboards! It was fun to connect with other local community members keeping plastic out of our oceans. We also had an opportunity to share the great work we are doing at Metamorphic keeping tons and tons of tarps, climbing rope and sailing materials out of the landfill. We also donate 1% of our sales to organizations that work to keep our oceans healthy. The Metamorphic Team definitely needs a kayak next time!
